Imagine the CEO of a large computer or software company taking questions from just average folks in a personal setting. Pretty hard to do right? In the case of one company, you would first have to make sure all the chairs were bolted into the foundation or things might get messy.

Just the other day the founder of Ubuntu came by the Ubuntu IRC channels and made himself available for questions from the unwashed masses. Live, real-time, he answered at length his vision of where Ubuntu is headed, what OSS may see in terms of release cycle synchronization, and tons of other interesting stuff. Of course he was given chanops in case things got out of hand. ;]

No PR spokespeople of media attended; just the users of one of the fastest growing Linux distributions out there–and he was there in person to answer our concerns and lay out what he saw as the strengths and weaknesses going forward. Apart from his usernick (sabdfl) it could have been any high level developer talking about what was in the pipeline for Ubuntu.

Next time you have trouble with WGA or another iTunes lockout of functionality consider the odds of directly contacting Messrs Ballmer or Jobs about that issue.
