I did it! $1000 in two and a half months just by blogging. Of course, most of thats gone back in to the blog and my other sites by paying hosting bills, domain registrations, advertising, upgrades to the servers (I have two dedicated server accounts and one virtual server account), design fees and donations to other sites. Now that I know I can do it though, the next $1000 should be easier to make and since most of my costs for the rest of the year are covered…
I know what you’re thinking, “how’d you do it mcangeli? Can you teach me how to be an internet god (notice the little g?) like you?” No, grasshopper, thats something you have to learn on your own. But I can point you in the right direction. Despite everything bad that the crowd on techcrunch has to say about it, PayPerPost (or IZEA) is one of the best things to happen for bloggers in a long time. Getting paid to blog. There are other programs as well, but PPP has the largest number of higher paying opportunities around than anyone else. If you’re looking to make money online and so far have been relying solely on Adsense, you need to consider other options.
I’ve also signed up for text link ads. I’ve just started this program, but I hope it does as well for me as it has for others before me.
Either way, with some careful planning and some hard work (at least a post a day) its possible to make money on line..
Ever thumbed through a catalog or a magazine and said to yourself, “They can’t possibly look like that in real life”? Chances are you’re right. Look at any of the number of paparazi photos that appear online and in print of the celebs when they’re dressed down and just trying to be normal. Most of the time they look worse than I do after a night of constantly getting up to let the dogs out and change my daughter’s wet bed sheets (she’s four and she still has a little problem if we let her have drinks after 8pm). There’s a lot of photo retouching that goes in to making Britney, Paris, Angelia and Brad look their best and before, it was insanely costly if you or I wanted it done.
Until now. Through the magical power of FotoFix online photo enhancement is now avaliable to us commoners in a way we never imagined. You can send photos directly to them via upload, email or cell phone and their team of professionals will have your improved photos back to you with in 24 hours in most cases (unless you look look like Quasimodo or Hugo Chavez).
If this system really works, it could be a pretty cool step forward in digital photography. Now those of us with cameras don’t need to know how to edit the photos in photoshop. Could be a very good thing.
While reading a post about the Super cache plugin for WP and how well it handled the digg effect, I came across another php caching script that I thought I’d give a try. The Xcache Plugin by neosmart seems to have helped a lot to keep the load on my server down. As soon as I had it installed and configured correctly (it took me a minute or two) the load dropped on my server.
The first thing you need to do is download and install XCache itself. On my debian server with apache2 and php5 this was as easy as #apt-get install php5-xcache. The install ran and set everything up. I did have to edit the /etc/php5/conf.d/xcache.ini file.
Look for two things: xcache.size and xcache.var_size. Set the first one to 64M and the second to 10M (you can set it higher or lower, but in order for the wp-plugin to work it has to be set greater than 0). Save and exit and restart apache.
Next download the actual plugin. Once you have it downloaded unzip it and copy it to your wp-content directory. Thats all you have to do. It does the rest. Check your server load and for the fun of it pull up your site and see if it loads any faster. I’d be suprised if it doesn’t.
Thirteen Reasons to NOT vote for Hillary Clinton!! In no particular order…
She’s for giving illegal immigrants drivers licenses. Wait, no, she’s not. Yes she is. No she’s not. - Apparently, she believes that Govenor Spitzer’s idea to give drivers licenses to illegals is a good idea, but she won’t endorse it. (though she did by saying its a good idea. Are you confused yet? I know I am…)
Her Laugh. Have you ever heard anything that sounded so fake or so wicked witch of the east like in your life?
She supports and increase in taxes on the wealthy. While I don’t quite yet bring in the income that the proposed tax increases would tax, I would like to one day. We need to stop taxing people and start letting them use their income the way they want.
Hillary Care - In Hillary’s world, the government would have the final say in when and where you can go see a doctor. We’ve seen such programs in effect in Canada and in the UK and people who need care are not getting the care they need. In Vancouver, they’re sending women going in to labor to the US for care because they do not have the resources available to deliver the babies. Do we really need a system like that??
More entitlement programs than I can count. Over the course of her run so far, she has proposed entitlement after entitlement after entitlement (did you hear the one about giving 5k to EVERY child born??). The problem with all these entitlement programs is that someone has to pay for them in the end. Thats where the American people are going to get it. In the end.
She plays the popular opinion. She hangs back on every issue and takes the popular side and she’ll say one thing while doing the complete opposite the entire time. She’s like the girl in school who longs to be liked soooo much she jumps on every bandwagon just to make a friend or stay with the “in” crowd.
Did I mention her Laugh? Its like the woman is a robot.
Instead of running a campaign based on politics, she’s basing it on sexism. Claiming that it was unfair for the other candidates to “attack” her in the last debate because she was a woman and calling presidential politics a “Boys Club”. It shouldn’t matter if you’re male or female. If you’re the best person for the job then you should deal. You don’t hear any of the other candidates complaining…
Her time in office is equal to Obama. Not in length but in actual content. Almost everything Hillary does is a calculated move. She hasn’t done anything ground breaking or breath taking.
She cheated. A resident of Arkansas one day, then after getting a multi-million dollar advance on a tell-all book (which apparently didn’t tell all), a purchase of a multimillion dollar home and voila, she was a New Yorker. So she could run for a Senate seat that was vacating. How does that classify her as representative of the people of New York?
The Two-fer. During Bill Clinton’s campaign, there were countless interviews, wherein they discussed their ‘co-presidency’ and how America would be getting two-for-the-price-of-one. In my mind, junk is still junk, no matter what you paid for it.
No imagination or vision. We all know she wants to be the next President, but why? What vision does she have for the future of the country? What imagination has she ever demonstrated beyond envisioning herself in the Oval Office? In my mind, the great ones (and even some of the not so great ones) all had a vision. Ronald Regan envisioned a shining city on the hill, for example. What is her vision? Free healthcare for everybody? Nothing’s free, someone will have to pay for it. Don’t you think it’s going to be you and me? No involvement in Iraq and withdrawal of the troops? Is that a vision or a catastrophe waiting to happen?
First Lady - Bill Clinton While it would be humorous to see Bill in a ball gown, I really don’t think the white house would benefit by having him as the first spouse. Do I need to say more??
