Halloween Photos Online

Another Halloween done and more halloween photos posted. The girls were dressed in matching witch costumes which was cute. Except that Grace went around with Uncle Frank and Ryan (the only nephew to go trick or treating this year) and not with Me, Amy and Emma.

Amy went as Snow white (she had the costume) and as you can see I went as a dad. I thought my costume was the best one of all. Anyway, take a gander at the photos. Both the kiddos are cuties, emma really caught on to the whole trick or treating thing. I was surprised.

Out of Water

The water is only turned on for three hours a day. During that time people scramble to cook, shower, do laundry and a myriad of other trivial tasks that require water. At nine its turned back off and life returns to normal for this tiny town. Three days a week, the Volunteer Fire Chief hops in the firetruck and drives to a fire hydrant in Alabama where a firetruck from a neighboring city helps transport water to the town’s tower in order to allow for this daily three hour respite from drought.

Here in the Metro-Atlanta area we’re quick to focus on our problems and the dwindling supply in Lake Lanier (which can apparently last until the summer if the Corps of Engineer’s float a barge in the area considered the dead pool and pump water out) and we often over look the other areas hit by the drought. The tiny Tennessee town of ORME ran out of water a while ago. Last summer, the turned water off to the town over night. This year, they’ve tightened things a little more.

They have a plan though, they’ve received disaster relief from the Government and are working on building a pipeline to a local alabama water supply, something they hope to have done by Thanksgiving. The town isn’t mad, or protesting or complaining. They take it in stride and worry about how their larger neighbors will fare, the Mayor Tony Reames says:

“I feel for the folks in Atlanta,” he says, his gravelly voice barely rising above the sound of rushing water from the town’s tank. “We can survive. We’re 145 people. You’ve got 4.5 million people down there. What are they going to do? It’s a scary thought.”

It is a scary thought, but if they can survive on 3 hours a night, I’m sure we can do a little more than stop outdoor watering can’t we??

A time to be critical

Apparently, Hillary got her feelings hurt when Bush used an analogy comparing the democrats who do not heed the warnings about Iran with those who did not heed the warnings about Hitler and Lenin. Sharply speaking out against the comparison Clinton said

“George Bush’s faulty and offensive historical analogies aren’t going to end the war in Iraq, make America safer or bring our troops home,” the New York senator said Thursday in a statement. “Americans are tired of the president’s efforts to play politics with national security and practice the politics of division.”

If I remember correctly, she didn’t complain (and may have even been one of those dropping names) when people in her own party compared President Bush to Hitler directly. Bush didn’t call them Hitler or Lenin, he merely said they were like those who didn’t listen to warnings about those two. A totally different angle and one that should not have gotten clinton’s undies in a wad. Though with the way her numbers have been slowly dropping this week, its a wonder she hasn’t bitten the head off of one of her junior staffers yet.

The democratic party has other worries though, with the congressional approval rating hanging below 25% approval for the third straight poll. Its funny how Congress now has a lower approval rating than President Bush. What happened to all the changes and promises the Democrats made prior to taking control in January? Could this bode well for the GOP in 2008?
