Comcast

I’m fed up with comcast. We bought my in-laws house from them in January 06. We’d been living in it since 2004. We had transfered all the bills to either mine or amy’s name except for Comcast (cable). The reason we hadn’t transfered it is because it isn’t as easy as it should have been. Now, if I had my father in law’s drivers license I could have taken it and a bill to one of the comcast stores and done it that way…. otherwise, he had to call, cancel the account and then i had to sign up for a new account. You’d think they could just change the name and SSN on the account.

I started this process on Tuesday. I spoke to a nice lady who was able to actually help me. She took the old account down, brought the new account up and even called me once this was done to give me the new account number. However, when I got home, we had no service. Apparently, since there was now a balance due on the old account (for the half of a month’s service) that had to be paid before the new account could be brought up on the existing hardware, otherwise, I’d have to have someone come out to install new service (WHICH MAKES NO SENSE TO ME). So, I pay the balance, call back and apparently, it takes a business day for payments to come up in their system. So we’re with out internet and cable for another day. Or so I thought.

I was able to disconnect the digital boxes from the cable and plug the cable directly to the TV and we had cable tv. w00t. No internet, but at least we could watch our shows. I call back on Wednesday, manage to get the digital cable on and then learn that there is a problem with new internet service and that it could take up to 24 hours. Well, while talking with the support guy on the phone, it turns out he lives kind of around the corner from us (which was nice to hear in this day of outsourced support) and some how we started talking about real estate in our area and how the prices on new houses can vary so greatly from one neighborhood to the next. It was kind of a random conversation to have with a support call… however he was able to get the issue resolved and by lunch on Thursday we had internet! God Save the King!!

Fall Activities

W00t! Now that fall is here we’re expecting cooler temps. No rain, but cooler temps. We also look forward to the plethora of fall activites there are to do. This weekend we’re going to Stone Mountain for the Pumpkin fest. Should be fun. We haven’t been in three years and this time we’re going with some friends. We may even make the laser show tomorrow night at the mtn if the girls are up for it (grace will be, we’ll have to see about mose).

usually at this time of year, we go out and do something like this. Pumpkins, apples, leaves, it doesn’t matter. If its fall and it has orange in it, we like it. :)
Do you and your family do anything fally during this time of year?

Go SLOW!

I like hawaiian shirts. I have around 10 of them that I wear at various times through out the summer. I like the light fabric, the wild prints and the “go slow” attitude they convey during the summer. Besides, whats better at the beach than a hawaiian shirt?

Plus, I’ve found somewhere I can order unique shirts from that fit with the “go slow” attitude I like to convey. I mean, why rush the good things, right? Mad Gringo has some really cool designs when it comes to Hawaiian prints and thats not all. I love their Pineapple skull and crossbones shirts as well (I think the yam one would look good on me). Their site is really easy to use and they have a good selection of shirts at decent prices. Their site claims their shirts are:

SCIENTIFICALLY PERFECTED FOR:

* Company picnics
* Surviving being crammed into the back of the carry on
* Karaoke renditions of “I’ll be there”
* Making a point just a little too loud and a little too vehemently
* Laughing about it later

I don’t know about the Karaoke but when it comes to making a point, I think they’re right on!

20 years!

You might have noticed that there’s been a little political slant to the blog posts. Thats because I believe we’re entering one of the most important political periods in a while. The Democrats have the majority in Congress, they’re hoping to get the majority in the Senate and they’d love a Democrat President for the trifecta. While I’m not certain it will happen (the Country isn’t happy with either party at the moment it would seem) one thing is for sure, we need to break up the hold on the office that two families have had for 20 years.

Actually, Peggy Noonan has a good OpEd piece this week on how the Bush’s and the Clinton’s have held the country captive for the past 20 years now and its probably time to break that hold. While I don’t agree with her on Obama being the best choice to do that (I don’t like his views on Iraq, taxes and other issues) I do agree that its time to break the hold and that unlike previous families who have held the office these two have done little to make the country better.

The problem, as Miss Noonan points out is that the longer the family holds the office, the farther their reach stretches and its that root system that will make it hard to break their hold. Whats needed is a candidate who can appeal to both sides of the political divide and manage to govern this country the way it needs to be. Less government, lower taxes and more opportunities for American citizens. Some one who not only talks the talk but they can walk the walk and actually believe what they say because its the right thing to do and its not what the public wants to hear.

The good thing is that if the country and the media can get past their current infatuation with Hillary, there are actually good candidates to choose from for the office of president. I hope we manage to wake up before February and the Primary season.

Fill It!

I was eating jelly beans once (I like the jelly belly ones) and I felt something hard when I bit down. I didn’t think much about it but I kept chewing and I swallowed. Apparently a filling had come out and was somewhere in me. FUN! I didn’t know about it and I was in college so I wasn’t about to go to the dentist (not only was my dentist 3 hours away but I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have afforded it anyways). If I had known about Dentemp OS back then, I could have fixed it with little hassle.

Dentemp OS is the first FDA approved over the counter dental cement and its pretty cool. Got a loose filling or a crown you need to reaffix? Pick up a thing of dentemp os. Its strong enough to fix most anything and you can eat with in 30 minutes after applying it. My only concern would be trying to apply it myself. I’d probably get amy to do it for me.

It seems that Dentemp OS would be ideal for those of us who dread going to the dentist (I can’t think of a time I went to the Dentist where I actually enjoyed it…). Its pretty inexpensive too, at $4.85 for a thing that will fix up to 6 issues. Got a pain? Maybe you need to fill a cavity. Try Dental Cement by Dentemp OS for a temporary dental repair to take care of it all.

B&B

Amy and I have had the opportunity to stay at a couple of Bed and Breakfasts (one in Denver and one in Asheville) and while its not totally our element, they are kind of nice as its a kind of home away from home type setup. B&B’s feel more homey that some of the hotels we’ve been in and sometimes thats a good thing. When we finally make it to England, we might take the opportunity to stay in a york bed and breakfast as they would allow us to see some of the more historic sites in York. I think it would be cool (and besides, I like English accents!)

Phony Soldiers?

There’s a lot of nothing being done this week in Congress and the Senate over Limbaugh’s Phony Soldier comment. Instead of actually buckling down and getting some work done they’ve been busy passing resolutions condemning Rush Limbaugh for his comments which may or may not have been taken out of context (I admit, I did not hear the comments). Instead of working towards fixing the tax code, actual debate on the Iraq war or any of the other issues Congress should tackle, they’re busy smearing Limbaugh. Maybe its no wonder that Congress’ approval rating is an appaling 22% where bush has a 33% approval rating. The constant smear campaign thats been waged by the Dem’s could be a good reason behind it.

Anyway, back to the subject. Ann Coulter has an excellent post at townhall.com regarding the fact that the democrats seem to be one of the last groups that should be harping on how anyone refers to the military. She cites several good examples in the Democratic party when it comes to over exaggerating military service. Either way, I think congress should give up the child like games of name calling and get down to some serious business like getting rid of the income tax.
